We might not be GenZ and we might not have the answers to becoming an overnight viral sensation. BUT, we do know that you shouldn’t discount TikTok. So why take advice from us if we aren’t handing you the secret sauce to make it big?
There is not secret sauce in social media success and there is no one way to succeed on this popular platform. TikTok’s success in the social media world is due to a combination of factors. First and foremost, its algorithm is designed to prioritize engaging content. Which means that users are more likely to see content that they enjoy and will engage with. This has made it easier for creators to gain traction on the platform. AND it’s a gentle reminder to understand your target audience and run with content that brings high engagement/views.
When I first started using TikTok, I relied on recycled content that worked well on a different platform. While it was mainly “research and development.” I quickly learned that what people wanted to see on TikTok wasn’t what I thought. (aka five views) So I had to pivot and start posting content that would captivate people. Even if meant floating in a space that was still authentic to me just never nurtured.
(example: captioning/posting photos regularly about being Italian on Instagram but being relatable and funny on TikTok talking about what it’s like being Italian).
Another key factor in TikTok’s success is its user-friendly interface. The app is designed to be simple and intuitive. With features like filters and editing tools that make it easy for users to create and share content. This has made TikTok accessible to a wider range of people, including those who may not have experience with other social media platforms.
The platform is known for its short, bite-sized videos that are designed to be both entertaining and informative. Our found @___k__e__l says “It’s now my new youtube, the videos being short makes it so that I don’t waste time forwarding through mindless YouTube chatter when I need a quick visual breakdown”. This has also made TikTok a hub for trends and memes. Which has helped it to build a strong community of users who are engaged and enthusiastic about the content.
Going viral means something worked, but it does not necessarily mean that it will give your ROI. So, when something does work, make sure you continue to create similar content. This will keep your audience hooked, engaged, and coming back for more. Think binge-able content is going viral. You want to keep people on your page as long as possible and scrolling as long as possible.
Overall, TikTok’s success can be attributed to its focus on user engagement, user-friendly interface, and ability to tap into current cultural trends. If you’re looking to grow your social media presence, TikTok is definitely a platform to consider and not discount!
